A Farm without Borders: Beekeeping in the City
What does it mean to be a beekeeper in the city and what role do we play in the larger urban ecosystem?
As part of this year’s ØKOUKA, join us for a talk about urban beekeeping, food production and the city as a shared landscape.
Where does a beekeeper’s “farm” begin and end when the bees forage across an entire city? Starting with a jar of honey, we’ll ask who actually produces it: the beekeeper, the bees, the flowers or the city itself?
We’ll explore the relationships between bees, people and the landscapes we share, and perhaps rethink what it means to be a beekeeper in the city.
The talk takes place during Innhøstingsdag at Gartneriet på Bygdø Kongsgård. So if you’re coming to harvest vegetables, take a break from the fields and join us for a different look at urban food production.
Free and open to everyone. No beekeeping experience needed – just curiosity.
Idil is a biologist, agroecologist and a certified beekeeper based in Oslo, and daglig leder of ByBi – Oslo’s urban beekeeping association. She has worked with urban beekeeping, food production and ecological education for several years, teaching new beekeepers and working to create better habitats for pollinators in the city.
